ABOUT ME

My name is Barbara, and I've been a graphic designer and desktop publisher for over 25 years. I've designed a variety of projects, including brochures, signage, reports, social media graphics and booth displays, from concept to completion. The majority of my graphic design work has been with local Calgary small businesses and non-profits, keeping the design process simple and affordable, no matter the type of business.
I taught myself how to use design software in the 90s, and discovered the workings of Photoshop, CorelDRAW, Illustrator and QuarkXPress. I learned from printed manuals and through trial and error, yet managed to figure things out. Eventually, I returned to school to study Desktop Publishing at Southern Alberta Institute of Technology.
I completed my post-secondary education and began working at a local printer in the Prepress department. I was editing files, preparing them for print, and developing film for print jobs. I gained a few years of experience and began working as a freelance designer.
As a freelancer, I started with small design projects, and eventually was hired to design a quarterly industry publication for the Canadian Association of Geophysical Contractors. In 2003, I started working as a freelance designer on a full-time basis, eventually creating Square Circle Design. I’ve been doing graphic design and desktop publishing for over 25 years. In addition to my graphic design background, I'm also a professional photographer, specializing in landscapes.
I was raised in Calgary, love travel, photography, our majestic Rockies, and the joys of family.

Barb and I worked closely together on "The Source" magazine, a publication of the Canadian Association of Geophysical contractors. Throughout the development of the magazine, Barb constantly brought innovation and positive changes to the publication. She was instrumental in bringing together a selection of unrelated materials and congealing it into a cohesive piece of work. The contributors did their part, but Barb was the keystone that cleverly crafted the artwork and advertising into a product we were all proud of.”
